Summary
Remove YouTube Shorts does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. The extension runs entirely inside your browser. There are no servers, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads.
Data the extension handles
The extension uses Chrome's built-in storage system to save your settings โ which Shorts to hide and a counter of how many Shorts have been blocked by the redirect feature. This data is stored locally on your device, and if you are signed into Chrome with sync enabled, it is synced across your own Chrome browsers by Google's sync system (not by us).
The seven stored values are:
- Whether to hide the Shorts shelf on the homepage
- Whether to hide the Shorts link in the sidebar
- Whether to hide the Shorts tab on channel pages
- Whether to hide Shorts in search results
- Whether to hide Shorts in subscriptions
- Whether to redirect direct Shorts URLs to the regular video player
- A count of how many Shorts have been redirected (for display in the popup)
None of this information is ever sent anywhere outside your browser.
Permissions and why we use them
The extension requests two permissions during installation:
- Storage โ to save your preferences and the blocked counter via Chrome's local storage system.
- Read your browsing history (webNavigation) โ Chrome uses this wording for the
webNavigationpermission, but the extension does not actually read or store your browsing history. It only watches for URLs that match the patternyoutube.com/shorts/, so it can redirect those specific URLs to the regular YouTube video player. No history is stored, logged, or transmitted.
The extension runs only on youtube.com. It does not run on any other website.
What we do not do
- We do not run any servers that receive data from your browser.
- We do not use analytics services (no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no Mixpanel, nothing).
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not sell, rent, or share any data, because there is no data to sell.
- We do not contact you, because the extension has no way to know who you are.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the extension's changelog on the Chrome Web Store.
